Baykit bit her tongue and stared down at her muddy paws. Azy didn't understand why it was so important that her mother remain a secret. She herself didn't know either; maybe one day she would. For now she just had to trust that she was doing the right thing. She looked at her mother guiltily, then continued to examine her paws.
Mintleaf watched with narrowed eyes as her daughter said something to Azy. It didn't take a genius to figure out what she had said. The way Baykit had quickly silenced herself and the guilty look on her face, and the way that Azy was looking at the two of them now, it was obvious she knew that they were related. The gray she-cat thought about explaining why she couldn't recognize Baykit as her daughter; that it was for her own good, to keep her safe from all the cats who would hold her father against her. Who was she kidding? This was just a little kit, who would know nothing about Abyssfang. She didn't have to explain herself. "Goodbye then," she said, nodding to the older cats and, reluctantly, her daughter. She had to treat her like everyone else.

Azy just nodded back toward Mintleaf. She probably would've yelled at her anyway.'Who are you and what have with Azy?' her big brothers voice asked her sharply. 'I'm your sister, you idiot' she replied, while her countenance remained calm. The voice chuckled a bit but then away died quietly. She smirked but then turned quickly to face the other she-cat before she left "How dare you!" her fur bristled with every word of the accusation "How dare you treat your own kit the way you do? WHY? What is the point of acting like she doesn't even exist?" her tail lashed to and fro wildly as she unsheathed her claws. She wanted answers and she wanted them now...

Mintleaf turned and stared at Azy, her green gaze cold. Insolent little kit! she thought angrily, her tail lashing. Yet despite her inner rage, her voice stayed calm. "There are some things that are best kept secret." Speaking with Hauntedstar had given her practice with keeping her temper in check. "You wouldn't understand." And I don't have to prove anything to you. With that, she turned and began to pad away, pointedly not rushing herself.
((Hehehe. This conversation could get interesting; she hasn't left yet.))

Azy flanks heaved with anger and rage, the emotions she'd thought she'd buried along time ago. She returned the same cold stare, determination shining brightly in her eyes. For a moment she was silent, her tail lashing back and forth and her claws digging into the ground. She felt every muscle in our body tense, unconsciously "Did I say I was finished?" Her voice seemed calmer than she remembered"I don't recall saying that, so get your furry little hind back here! And answer me!" She wasn't asking it, she was demanding it. She kept her gaze steady and her paws firmly on the ground. She took a deep breath and yet that didn't help her. 'Ten...nine...eight...' she only needed to focus, just focus...
((Damn straight))

Mintleaf sensed Azy's rage, but didn't turn to look. The young she-cat sounded surprisingly calm, much calmer than she would have been at that age. She wasn't going to let some naive kit boss her around. The gray she-cat flicked her tail indifferently at Azy's demand and kept walking, painfully slow as ever. A small, evil smile appeared on her face and her eyes darkened. Soon she would see how long Azy could keep control of herself. Though she was careful to keep herself looking relaxed, she prepared herself to fight.

All the counting stopped, for a moment everything stopped, the beating of her heart, the lashing of her tail, the sheathing of her claws, everything ceased. For that moment it was not Mintleaf she was so angrily glaring at it was her father. She was glaring at the father that had abandoned her, the father that made her mother leave, the father that sat by idly watching her sister die, her father that, in the end, drove her brothers away, her father that seriously pissed her off! For those few moments in time in which everything froze she could openly hate her father yet she did not voice for after the freezing of time everything came crashing down with a horrendous blow yet she remained standing! Every ounce of being she had began to vibrate with anger and rage and, if even a little, hate. Her eyes had closed and now they flew open, every emotion showing within their dark depths. She flew at Mintleaf like a hawk would if it were swooping down for prey, with her claws out. Her aim was not to kill, her aim was to cause translate any emotional and psychological pain that Baykit had felt, that she had felt, into physical pain...

In a heartbeat, Mintleaf whipped around and faced her attacker. She was going to spring sideways, but faltered. The look in her eyes... it was like she was possessed. The thought ran through her head for only an instant before she snapped out of it and dodged to the side, but she was just a little too late. Claws snagged her fur, and a thin trickle of blood came from her shoulder. If that had hit her straight on, it would've hurt. Mintleaf's eyes narrowed. It was time to start fighting.
This time she didn't pause for even a moment. Almost before her paws hit the ground she sprang forward, claws outstretched and ears back.
***
Baykit took a startled step back as Azy sprang, her eyes round with horror. No... No, this isn't what I want, she thought desperately, taking a few more steps backward and crouching in the mud. Her fur stuck out in matted clumps and her whole body shook, whether from being cold and wet or from fear she wasn't sure.
Even though it looked like Mintleaf was abandoning her, Baykit knew she had a good reason. Everything had a reason, even if she didn't understand it. A mother wouldn't just leave her kit, would she? This had to stop. She had to protect her mom, even if she wanted nothing to do with her. But she was also desperate for a friend, and had hoped to find one in Azy.
The blue-gray tabby crouched lower into the mud. It wasn't that she was afraid of their claws, or that she wasn't strong enough to take them. With her size, she probably could've taken both of them at once. But she couldn't decide what to do. She couldn't choose between her mother and her friend. She closed her eyes tightly, as though that would make it go away. She doubted either of them would notice her.

Azy had felt fur and when she landed saw it on her claws. She spun around quickly, hoping for another attack but it was too late. She saw Mintleaf with her ears back and her claws out. The ginger and white cat braced herself, every muscle tensing, as Mintleaf landed her blow head on. Azy yowled in pain when the claws and body of the other she-cat made contact with her own light frame.
Her injuries were of no more importance now that they had been made, though there was blood descending down her chest and she had been strategically placed on her back. Her next move was to push Mintleaf off with all her might. Using her hing legs, Azy struck out...

That sinister smile returned to Mintleaf's face as she landed squarely on top of Azy. The young she-cat's blood felt warm on the gray she-cat's pads, but it didn't make her loosen her grip. She grappled with the other she-cat for a moment, struggling to pin her down. She was so focused on holding her still that Azy's kick caught her off guard. She landed with a thud, but on her feet. It took her a moment to recover and get into a defensive position. Although she hadn't looked, she was sure that Azy was flying towards her by then.

Taking very little time to recover, Azy heaved herself upward. She paced for a moment around Mintleaf, thinking. Yes, thinking, which wasn't something she did often, about her next attack if even if she should. That anger that had been bottled up had been released but Azy never stopped if she wasn't finished. Asphodel became a white and ginger blur as the she-cat let-loose, her shoulder-rather than her claws- was moving forward. All she wanted to do now was just knock Mintleaf down...
((Sorry if it's a little short))

Mintleaf waited for the attack. At first none came, and she opened her eyes just in time to see Azy ramming into her. Rather than holding her ground, the gray she-cat let herself roll sideways. Being careful not to expose her belly, she continued the roll and stopped on her paws. She could sense that the fight was starting to die down, but all the same she swiped her claws at Azy.
((Baykit will stop them... soon.))

Azy turned around after what she hoped would've been her final attack on Mintleaf, but obviously wasn't. She let out a hiss and recoiled as the other she-cats claws made contact with her two-toned face. The anger began to boil upward again but she slowly, painfully slow, forced it back down-for the moment. She didn't stay in her cowering position for long. Within moments she was once again barreling toward Mintleaf, a fire blazing her dark emerald gaze...

Almost before her claws left Azy's fur, Mintleaf jerked back and immediately sprang forward. She saw the other she-cat flying towards her, and braced herself. And so, the fight would continue.
Baykit opened her eyes just in time to see Azy drive her shoulder into Mintleaf. The older she-cat rolled and retaliated. As she watched, the large gray she-cat stood, her fur beginning to bristle. This wasn't right. They were fighting because of her, so it was up to her to stop it. A growl rumbled deep in her throat, and as she sprang forwards a strident yowl rang out. Had she made that sound? If she had, then why did hearing it unnerve her? Her doubt flickered in her eyes, but was instantly replaced by a blaze of fury. She thrust herself between the two attacking she-cats, suddenly completely confident. She was rooted to the ground; nothing could move her unless she wanted to. Her thick fur felt like armor. Her ocean blue eyes had a wild and unruly look to them, like those of an insane cat would. For the first time in her life, she had no doubts as she stood there, swinging her massive head to glare at both she-cats, gripped by the thrill of power rushing through her.
Mintleaf turned her head sharply towards the source of the battle cry. She had never heard any sound so terrible before; what sort of a creature could have created it? It was Baykit. The gray warrior froze, her blood suddenly turning to ice. The look in her daughter's eyes... No! Abyssfang! The bloodthirsty warrior stood in Baykit's place for a moment. Terror clouded Mintleaf's green eyes, which were round with shock. Mintleaf took a few steps backwards, shaking her head in disbelief. She had created a monster. She had thought becoming Abyssfang's mate would make things better, and she had thought that she had learned from that mistake and had fixed it by trying to erase it. She had been wrong. Instead of forgetting Abyssfang, he now lived on in her daughter. Mintleaf wanted to turn and run and never stop, but her limbs were frozen, and all she could do was stare.

Azy heard a battle cry she thought could only come from a seasoned fighter. The ginger-and-white she-cat turned and saw Baykit and knew it was her that had made that cry! Her jaw fell open in shock, she knew the kit was large for age but that couldn't have been her could it? That noise had sent a shiver down her spine but it gained her attention. Her dark eyes fell next on Mintleaf and the she-cat seemed to frozen to the ground "Baykit?" her voice wasn't her own. It quivered like the leafless branches far off in the distance. 'Get a hold of yourself' he father's voice reminded her 'I will, Father' she promised. 'He's dead she reminded herself 'Now quit talking to your self...'

As quickly as Baykit's flash of rage had come, it was gone. She pulled her claws back in, only then noticing that she had unsheathed them. All confidence melted away from her as she stood there, looking confused and dopey. Her whiskers trembled with fear at her own outburst. The gray she-cat took a deep breath. It was okay now. She was back to being herself.
First she turned to Azy, unsure of what to say. What could she say? She knew of her secret, and probably thought she was some sort of a lunatic now. Baykit blinked. They would talk later. That is, assuming Azy didn't slip away while Baykit wasn't looking; Baykit couldn't say she would blame her if she did.
The young she-cat looked at her mother and saw that she seemed frozen, her eyes wide with shock. Guilt and uncertainty prickled through Baykit's fur. Had she really been that bad? She took a hesitant step forwards, wondering if she should comfort her. "Ummm..."
***
Mintleaf stared ahead blankly. When her daughter stepped towards her and made a noise she jumped, but she had returned to earth. Baykit's eyes now glittered with concern. Hope surged in Mintleaf's chest. Maybe there was still hope for her daughter. But she still didn't see herself as a part of Baykit's future. The one time she had met up with her daughter, it had ended like this. It seemed that she brought out the worst in cats. Mintleaf's whiskers twitched. "Goodbye, Baykit," she said sadly, and, without even looking at Azy, she turned and left. It's for her own good, she kept repeating to herself. It was the only thing that kept her from turning and running back.
TO: Not here
***
Baykit's tail flicked. "Goodbye," she whispered, knowing that Mintleaf hadn't heard her. The large gray she-cat turned around slowly to face Azy once more. "So..." she hesitated, waiting for the other cat to speak first.
