moonlight shone through the ceiling of the cavern, causing the granite sculptures to glitter obscenely and giving the stone cave its namesake glory. glory well faded, if you asked Shadow. said tom leapt into the small rock hole, his fur fluffed up against the nighttime chill. it was so close to green-leaf, the air had started to lose its freezing bite and the wind was beginning to obtain a softer quality, but evenings were still biting.
i took a walk around the world to ease my troubled mind i left my body lying somewhere in the sands of time i watched the world through to the dark side of the moon i fear there's nothing i can do... yeah luminous blue eyes admired the foundation of all the dead, burnt-out clans. it was also his foundation - and not only his. also demon's, shroud's, draik's and dumia's. he felt a strong, streaming undercurrent of dark premonitions when he came here. he hadn't been here in over a year. not since the faithful shadows had been forgotten. not since shroud and demon were kits. not since... not since... not since he'd lost his connection with himself.
i saw the world through to the dark side of the moon through it all i knew it had something to do with you i really don't mind what happens in the end as long as you'll be my friends in the end he tentatively entered the cave further, admiring the artistry StarClan had invested into creating a sacred, holy cathedral just for the sake of their precious Clans. dead Clans that had never fully appreciated their holy ancestors. never would, either. it was too late for that.
if i go crazy then will you still call me superman? if i'm alive and well will you be there holding my hand i'll keep you by my side with my superhuman mind kryptonite much too late. Shadow sat next to the ancient Moonstone. he suspected it had once had a wondrous, luscious silver pallor, but now it was nothing but a stone. the awesome powers StarClan had given it had died out along with the old warriors of yesterday. Shadow didn't know why this affected him so; he hadn't even known the Clans, but for an enemy of his childhood that he'd felt threatened by.
you call me strong, you call me weak but even then your secrets i will keep you took for granted all the times i never let you down closing his eyes heavily, he hung his head resentfully.
you stumbled in and bumped your head if not for me, then you'd be dead i picked you up and put you back on solid ground the world had been cruel to him in the past. now, he'd found happiness. he and Shroud, his mate, had given the world a new generation of Shallowheart incarnates (or so he sometimes believed). still, he wasn't satisfied. he had given nothing to the world. often, he'd only glared out at it from the eyes of a cold pessimist. he'd been a child of darkness, hell-bent on destruction for the start... or so he'd believed. or hoped. he felt a nostalgic longing for a companion. the companions. he needed Shroud and he needed Demon. he needed to feel complete again. he looked around furtively, wondering if they'd appear somehow. it was strange the way their minds were synchronized. Shroud.. Demon.. in the past i've acted as though i didn't need you, but there has never been a time in my life when i have enjoyed being alone. save me from.. myself.
if i go crazy then will you still call me superman? if I'm alive and well will you be there holding my hand i'll keep you by my side with my superhuman mind K R Y P T O N I T E

[[Aww, really? -is touched-]] "What'cha doin' down 'ere, Shadow?" Called a familiar voice. "Playin' at what'ch'er mamas and daddies was?" No visual, but the sound was enough... Wasn't it? [[sucky, I know.]]

[&& at least you replied. -huggles-] That voice...
Shadow turned, luminous blue eyes striking through the gloomy, gray dark of night. His whiskers trembled, and his jaw nearly dropped with shock. Flicking his tail, he turned around, just in time to see the pretty, rough-tongued orange she-cat with whom he'd shared his life with. Most of it, anyways.
He unfurled his tail like a flag and began to approach her, regarding her casually, though his eyes and heart were warmed enough to appear pools of love-soaked lava. "Demon," he said, tilting his head. "I've been looking f-" He stopped himself, regained his composure a little, and rephrased his words: "I've been wondering what happened to you. What have you been doing with your life since... since?" He narrowed his eyes in pleasure, not knowing what to expect from his orange friend's throat but not caring right now. He was content to drink her appearance in from ears to tail tip; he never fully appreciated how much that cousin of his meant to him. [&& i returned a sucky post t'ya. xD]

[[but 'twas a lovely sucky post.]] Demon grinned, green eyes glowing in the eerie darkness of the cavern. "Missed me, huh, Shadow?" She said boldly, stepping further into the cave. "I been doin' this'n'that, mostly. Nothin' of int'r'st t'ya an' Shroud, really." Her cheshire smile grew wider as she continued. "Heard ya had a litt'r o' kits not long 'go. Where're the li'l rascals, Shadow? Bet they need a few lessons in insultin' an' such, huh?" Beneath that comment, so glib, so offhand, was a silent plea. Demon had been alone for a few moons. Redblood was gone; where, she didn't know. The two had fought often enough; after one particularly bad spat, he'd just gotten up and left. Left! The thought had hurt Demon initially. She'd liked him, liked him, and whoever was watching them knew how few cats Demon liked. Still.... There wasn't any need to saddle Shadow, who was so clearly preoccupied with his own problems and worries, with hers. Right now, she just needed to feel accepted, wanted. A small request, wasn't it? [[nice. not so sucky.]]

&& very nice. <3
Shadow stopped, taking in her words, before he smiled against his will.
"Yes.. I do have kits. Draik and Dumia, though where they are as we speak, I don't know." He measured carefully her next words and her expression. He knew she would never use the words her eyes screamed at him verbally; he wouldn't, either. Only Shroud had that much sense out of the three of them.
He smiled to himself, then answered, "Well, no matter how often they may be insulted, only one person can be the master, and that would be you, Demon. I've told them both about you - I'm sure they'd be happy to see you." Here he smiled for the public, without feeling ashamed this time. It really had been too long. He briefly wondered what had happened to that Redblood guy - his own uncle, but younger than him - and didn't put his inquiries into words. Perhaps it was hurtful. Before they'd seemed inseperable, and now.. well.. from the looks of his old friend, she wasn't ecstatic about the near past.
&& hmm. did they break up? redxdem, i mean?

[[absolutely no clue. but i've no clue where he is, either, so i assumed they'd either broken up or he was dead. Could be pretty freakin' awesome, though, if she finds him and is alive. I'd like that, pers'nally.]]
Demon smirked-- well, not really a smirk, per se. More of a smile that seemed to relish Shadow's words. "That's good; I ain't had 'ny comp'ny since... since a while." The ginger cat finished hastily, turning her head swiftly to one side so that the silver and black tom wouldn't see the tears obscuring her bright green eyes. No cat had ever seen her cry; Demon wouldn't let them see it now.
"I been thinking, Shadow." She continued, not bothering to look at her cousin. "'Bout changin' m'name, I mean. 'Demon' reminds me too much of m'brother, an' th' Shadows. I... I jus' wanna change right now, Shadow. I could use a li'l change now'n then, know what I mean?" Her voice became a little softer now, a little more choked with emotion. Not so much that it was instantly apparent that Demon was crying in the dark of the cave, but enough that it was different from her normal tone and volume.
[[aww. -tear-]]

&& i know. same here. Shadow's getting boring, but there's no way in hell i'm droppin' 'im, killin' 'im, or anything else. he's the best character i've ever had with the exception of, hmm, Foxfrost. and Draik / Darkpaw is a descendent of both. so he won't be dying for awhile either. xDD
