They crossed the river and, with a little grumble at wet paws, traveled up the shores and headed deeper into this new and strange place. It was almost dawn, but the the sky was still black and there were a few star left. Blackenedmoon found this particular time of day to be her favorite, because it was not night but it was not morning either. She led the way the entire time, gray eyes cast up on the horizon, searching for the sun. She was a carefree she-cat, wandering here and there, but never staying for too long. When they came to a path, she chose to take a route through the shrubs; this, although slightly harder task, she liked because no one else did. Mottledthroat stayed behind her the entire time. She was the leader, and he, her mere follower, a subordinate. Not that he enjoyed following her around, it was all he could do to protect her. There had been many occasions were she had carelessly found danger, and he, being the older brother, had saved her. As she took the new route through the shrubs, he followed with a grumble. While she would rather travel through here, he would rather just take the path. BUt he had to protect her, because she was the only thing he had left. Blackenedmoon came through the shrubs, tail raised high, and by morning, she had led her brother into an unusual clearing. She stopped and looked around. "Odd," she murmmered, half to herself, "I didn't figure a clearing to be here, did you Mottledthroat?" Mottledthroat just grunted in reply. He hoped that Blackenedmoon finding the clearing "unusual" wouldn't make her believe it wasn't worthy of sleeping in. He was tired and moody, and without words sat on the cool ground to rest his paws. Blackenedmoon may not have noticed it, but there were lots of scents here, scents of cats, crossing over each other and disappearing into the land around. No, Blackenedmoon may not have noticed it, but this clearing was here for a reason. Others lived here, cats who were free to think but lived happy little lives. He smirked as he lay down; yes, they would be back soon, and he would have someone else to talk to besides his free thinking sister.

xx lets burn our dreams into the skyline
[/color] The pale dawn light laced through wispy ivory clouds, throwing patches of silvery light over the ginger shoulders of Vastflame. The water glittered in the morning light, and the wind was tossed over green leaves overhead. All was peaceful in StreamClan territory. Vastflame lowered his head and flattened his ears down as he ducked into the tunnel that led to StreamClan camp. The familiar scents of his Clanmates washed over him, followed by a string of unfamiliar scents. Vastflame opened his mouth and drew in a deep breath. Please name yourself. He stated loudly, tail sweeping to the side as he pushed his way out of the tunnel. Vastflame was met with the sight of a pair of cats. The male was a mottled brown and black tabby with ocean blue eyes. The smaller, and the female of the two was a sleek black cat with penetrating grey eyes. He dipped his head to them before sitting down a couple of feet away.

Blackenedmoon of course, didn't notice the stranger come from the tunnel until he spoke. She turned and saw that Mottledthroat had gotten up and standing very straight, not moving, with his fur standing on end. She rolled her eyes and brushed past her silly brother, gray eyes like two tiny little moons. She stood before the tom with no fear, although he didn't speak in the most friendly way. He was a handsome tom, se had to notice, as he stood in semi-darkness, tail raised proudly. Mottledthroat let out a small growl from behind her.
"Oh us?" she called back, "We're just passing through." She smiled, knowing that this was not the answer he really wanted. She was quiet for a half a second, then continued sheepishly, "I am Blackenedmoon. And the grouchy one is my brother, Mottledthroat."

Viperpaw looked up from his nest. Outside the apprentice's den, he could see near the entrance a pair of cats, speaking with his mentor and leader, Vastflame. Curious, he made his way quickly over to the threesome, for of course, if it involved his mentor, it should involve him too. Hi Vastflame! He meowed in greeting, still looking at the strange pair. What ya doing? He wondered in his most kittish voice, not at all like the apprentice he now was. Who're you two? He asked the pair, a tom and a female, directly. He'd slept through the introductions, and so hadn't caught their names.

Kitsune wandered into the camp, cool shadows reflecting on her bright ginger pelt. Endearing starlight settled into the depths of her emerald eyes, and those orbs widened considerably when she stepped closer to the group of cats she'd seen at the Gathering. Her tiny pink nose wrinkled disgustedly as the StreamClan scent, foreign in every way, hit her. Although she'd lived in the Twisted River all her young life, she was not accustomed to the heady aroma of the several cats. One, a big golden tomcat, was confronting two darker colored cats with what seemed like calm hostility. A younger cat nearby was regarding the obviously scorned two with the same kind of warning looks, and she knew, instinctively, that if she was going to plead to join this Clan, the Clan of her birth if not her heritage, she needed to join along these two cats. She glanced down at herself, adjusted some dust that had gathered on her coat with a few rough licks, then stepped out of hiding, heart nervously beating. Throwing off the sheet of hesitation at long last, the young ginger female sauntered forward, calling loosely in her slightly high-pitched, small voice, I, too, mean no harm, sir. I .. I would like to join your Clan! In her young mind, it was best to get to the point, and not hesitate like she was unsure. After all, why would she be accepted if it was apparent that she was not one hundred percent determined to join and be loyal. So now this was it. She had thrown her old life and kindred behind her .. to begin anew.

Vastflame dipped his head in acknowledgement to the siblings. Welcome, Blackenedmoon and Mottledthroat. I am Vastflame, leader of StreamClan. He flicked the ivory tip of his tail to the right. The warrior's den is over there. You are welcome to stay. He flicked his sapphire eyes from Mottledthroat to Blackenedmoon, orbs pooling with warmth. The tom's ears perked when he heard a much younger, feminine voice. He swiveled his head to catch sight of a young, apprentice-age cat with a ginger pelt and emerald eyes. She seemed confident for a kit her age. Again, Vastflame dipped his head. We welcome all cats. May I ask of your name? He tilted his head curiously. Surely this cat was not on her own. [Oooh, that sounds fun. But he'll end up chasing her because she's a free spirited little thing. She'll give into him eventually.] Stay? Blackenedmoon could have yowled out loud, the prospect of staying in place not pleasing to her at all. Why stay in one place when the world ached for her pawsteps? But the leader, Vastflame, had such kind eyes and a warm voice that made her melt. She couldn't take his eyes off of him, that is until her brother brushed by her with a smirk, blocking her view. She had no doubt he was pleased that they were finally staying put.
And we was pleased. Mottledthroat had never been happier. Finally he could settle down and learn to fit in with this new cats, this StreamClan. He saw in his sister's eyes both happiness and sadness; he guessed where the sadness came from immediately, but the happiness? He followed her eyes to Vastflame's eyes, and a growled to himself. Of course. That's why she didn't put up a fight. Regardless, he was staying. "Thank you," he told Vastflame, then he picked up his paws and went in the direction of the Warriors den. Blackenedmoon stayed behind.

Viperpaw approached the new she-cat with curiosity. She looked to be about his age, maybe a little older. The cat's ginger pelt sparkled in the sunshine. He was bubbling over with enthusiasm. Quite natural for him this early in the morning. Especially one right after a Gathering. What's your name? He asked, bounding up to her, again reverting to a more kittish way of acting. He sat down abruptly in front of her, swishing his tail back and forth with excitement. Three new clan mates! He thought excitedly to himself, as he waited for her reply. He'd never been too good at waiting though, so it took a toll on him to wait quietly.
[As you might have already guessed, Viper's a bit ADHD-ish]

[Leafy, you're lucky neither Blackened nor Mottled are blood thirsty murderers, because Viper would be the first to go.]

ooc - Aww. I think Viper's cute. =D
Slightly embarrassed, Kitsune looked at the ground and shuffled her paws nervously. Er, sir, my family all split to join their respective Clans, and I chose StreamClan, if you would be so kind as to accept me .. Then, suddenly, another cat, a much younger and sillier one, approached her. His innocent question intermingled with the one of the golden tomcat, the one who was obviously a leader figure. She answered them simultaneously, I go by Kitsune.

Vastflame smiled gently at Blackenedmoon as Mottledthroat slipped off to sleep. The black she-cat seemed so nice, but wary of everyone. She looked like she possibly wanted to leave. He stepped forward a little. No one's forcing you to stay. Vastflame blinked, curling his tail around his forepaws. He regarded the raven-colored she-cat for a moment, before turning away and smiling at Kitsune. Alright. Would you be biased to changing your name? He asked the young ginger female.

[XD I can believe that Jaide. ]
Welcome to Streamclan then, Kitsune! Viperpaw said cheerfully to the young female. Hope you like it here! It's great! There's so much prey, and everybody's real friendly. Viperpaw smiled at Kitsune. I wonder if we could be friends? She seems nice! He thought to himself. You hungry? He said aloud, gesturing with his tail. There's a lot of food.He added, almost as an after thought.

Ivoryfeather followed her leader into the camp, and saw the newcomers. Were they joining StreamClan? Or just staying the night? As she approached, she heard Vastflame mention a name change to the youngest of the group. So she was joining. But what about the other two? The medicine cat sat down next to the StreamClan leader. Are they also joining?" she asked him softly. She had never been too fond of strangers.

No one's forcing you to stay. No one? Blackenedmoon couldn't take her eyes off the tom called Vastflame. No one? she thought, No one is making me stay, except you. I've never met a tom like you before. You are making me stay. She didn't say this out loud, but lowered her head to hide a smile.
She heard another one speak, a voice of high authority but never challenging that of the leader. She had to look up once more at this she-cat who now joined Vastflame. She felt slightly jealous; she wanted to be the one to sit by him, so close they could feel each other's warmth. But she was far away from him, cold. The she-cat directed a question at Vastflame, but it was something she could easily answer herself. "Join?" she choked, "Well. . . I suppose, for the while at least. We've been traveling a long time."

Change her name? The name her parents had given to her? Well .. she had to admit, Kitsune wasn't exactly a melodious name, especially to these cats. She slightly envied the names these other cats' names -- Vastflame, Blackenedmoon, Mottledthroat, Viperpaw -- those were the names of the wild. So, looking back up into the eyes of the golden warrior, she mewed thoughtfully, Of course not, sir. I'd like to be known as Vixenpaw. Turning to the Viperpaw character, her green eyes brightening, she mewed laughingly, Well .. I'm kinda hungry. But I wouldn't take hard-caught food, when I haven't caught a thing so far. I can wait 'til later. Mirroring the other cat's thoughts, she wondered subconciously if they could get to know each other better. He seemed like a very nice cat .. a very pleasing character to be around. As an after thought, she added, I think I will like it here. I think I'll like it a lot .. She blinked, then smiled gratefully.
