((Anyone want to mentor Silverpaw or Rustedpaw? Fawnleap? Fadingsteps? Wolf? Someone else I'm not thinking of?))
Mintleaf stood and stretched in her moss nest, yawning simultaneously with her eyes shut tightly. She stood upright again blinked in confusion. For a moment she was filled with a mixture of confusion and panic. A thousand thoughts flashed through her mind in the instant it took her to come to her senses. She was the leader of WillowClan now. Leader. That was the last thing she felt like. Just then she could barely handle her own emotions, much less take responsibility for a whole Clan! The gray she-cat sat down in her nest heavily, staring at the wall of her den blankly while she waited for the panic that hung in her belly to subside.
She took a deep breath that shook slightly, then scolded herself. She had to at least pretend that she was strong. With that thought in mind, she padded out of her den and blinked in the light. The sun was just peeking over the treetops, blinding her. The gray leader shook her head and stretched a second time. It was good to be in the fresh air again.
She had the vague feeling that she was forgetting something. Right. The apprentices needed mentors. No time like the present.
The she-cat bounded onto the Highrock, feeling more at ease than she expected, though it was probably due more to apathy than comfort. After all that had happened to her, an apprentice ceremony seemed dreadfully dull. She tried to think back to her own apprentice ceremony. She could remember being infinitely excited, but it was only that--a memory. Those sorts of feelings didn't seem possible anymore.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highrock for a Clan meeting!" she yowled, realizing what a mouthful it was. It would be so much easier to just say, Everyone come, now! But oh well, StarClan was picky. Her tail flicked as she waited for her Clan to gather.
Silverpaw groaned as a rude yowl woke her up. Can't a cat get any sleep?! she thought grumpily. It took awhile before the words' meaning sunk in, and she bounced to her paws. Finally, a Clan meeting! Maybe she would finally get a mentor! The gray apprentice padded out of the apprentices' den and sat down in front of the Highrock.
Violetlight padded out of the warriors' den and sat down a short distance from her daughter, just far enough so they weren't sitting next to each other. The warrior wrapped her tail around her paws tightly and waited, her eyes glowing with pride. It might not be the ceremony, she reminded herself. But was Mintleaf really so out of it that she would forget?
