i see an expression, so clear and so true the midafternoon sky was reflected in the water. the water swayed in the breeze, casting ripples over the surface. it seemed that the sky was shattering, as vastflame looked into the reflection. the water lapped gently at his paws, like it was trying to seduce him into taking a swim. the frosty air ruffled his ginger fur though. how could it be so sunny yet cold? his blue eyes glinted in cool but strong sun.
tht changes the atmosphere when you walk to the room the water once again beckoned at his paws. vastflame stared down at them, contemplating. well, what was wrong with jumping in for a moment? a little swim would't hurt anything. grinning, vastflame waded a little farther into the water, fur standing on end. it was cold. as he splashed farther, vastflame flicked water droplets off of his ears. i must be insane. he thought, yet he kept wading further. he remembered swimming here when he was a little kit, with his father. you can do it, vastkit! the big black-and-white tom had encouraged him on, purring in amusement. vastflame himself purred at the memory. so i try to be like you, try to feel it like you

The she-cat took her time, letting her paws sink into the sand as she walked. She glanced up at the sky; a single wispy cloud drifted along lazily. She was aware that the bright sunlight would make her pelt a beacon and that anyone would be able to see her from a mile off, but it didn't bother her much. She knew that nothing on StreamClan territory was out to get her, which was good in some ways but also had its downsides. In a way she missed the thrill of not knowing what was hidden in the shadows or when she would find her next meal, of knowing that if she couldn't fight or hunt well enough she wouldn't survive. Now she wasn't even supposed to hunt, but that also meant that she could devote all her time to studying various herbs.
The white she-cat looked up at the sound of splashing. Probably an apprentice, she thought, then blinked in surprise when she realized that it was none other than the StreamClan leader. This will be good, she thought with a small grin. Vastflame seemed thoroughly engrossed in what he was doing; Ivoryfeather proceeded slowly.
The medicine cat sat down behind where her leader splashed in the water and curled her tail over her paws, trying to look as sophisticated as possible. She gave an amused purr, loud enough so that he could hear. "Isn't it a bit cold to be swimming?" she asked, trying to sound like she was simply curious but knowing that she was failing.

i see an expression, so clear and so true vastflame closed his eyes, memories whirling around him. he ducked under the soft waves, the chill of liquid washing throughout his flame-colored pelt. that had been one of the better days with his parents. many other days, they had had rather... violent conversations. at this though, vastflame's eyes fluttered open, the pale, round moons of beautiful blue matching the color of the water. as he resurfaced, he flicked his ears in contempt. ugh. his parents. why were they so wicked? if they could see him now. he'd show them.
tht changes the atmosphere when you walk to the room his thoughts of kithood were interrupted by a light purr and teasing words. the chiming voice hit his ears like dry air after the cold water. vastflame turned his head to see the white pelt of ivoryfeather. oh. he said, flicking his ears, slightly embarassed that she had seen him.. frolicking in the water, for lack of better word. vastflame searched for words to answer her with. finally, he decided. well, yeah. vastflame answered her, trotting closer, until he was about ankle-deep in water. but so what? a chill was starting to creep under his thick flame-colored coat. he inaudibly shivered, shaking droplets off of his fur. so i try to be like you, try to feel it like you

"So nothing," Ivoryfeather replied automatically, then regretted it. Respect had never been her strong point. That was another advantage to her medicine cat status; she wasn't required to be respectful to anyone except Vastflame. And of course that was the one cat she'd ended up talking to. "I mean I--I was just wondering... er, what you were doing," she added quickly, trying to amend her snappy response. The young she-cat glanced down at her paws, then looked up at her leader. Little diamonds of water dripped from his fur, sparkling in the sunlight before they dropped into the flawless azure water. He seemed troubled by something.
Ivoryfeather saw a tiny shiver ripple through his pelt. A distinct scent immediately came to mind; she closed her eyes and shook her head, trying to clear it away. He doesn't need herbs, he needs to get out of the water, she thought as she opened her eyes and looked directly at him. Her business-like order to get out of the water melted when she saw his eyes. She didn't know such a beautiful sapphire color existed; the deep blue of the water suddenly seemed cold and distant.

i see an expression, so clear and so true vastflame flicked his tail, slightly worried as streamclan's medicine cat shook her head. what was she thinking of? he stared at her rather openly. the cold sunlight glinted off of her beautifully white pelt. it was... attractive. vastflame shook away that though. no, it wasn't. she was a medicine cat. no. no. flicking droplets off of his pelt, he waded out of the water, and settled himself about a foot away from ivoryfeather.
tht changes the atmosphere when you walk to the room he purred, as she seemed surprised. he realized that it was almost the first time she had looked him square in the eyes. most felines reacted the same way. surprised. his pale, sky-colored eyes were nothing short of unique and handsome. he wasn't surprised. he cleared his throat then spoke, a rough yet gentle mix of vocals. exactly. so what brings you here, ivoryfeather? he replied, snaking his tail around his ginger paws. so i try to be like you, try to feel it like you

Ivoryfeather blinked and tried not to look into her leader's eyes again. She wasn't sure if she would be able to pull her gaze away a second time. "Oh, you know," she said, sounding thoroughly bored. "Just going for a walk." She looked. Fortunately she wasn't spellbound the second time, maybe because she was expecting it. "Keeping an eye out for any herbs--not that we need any more than we already have." She shrugged. "No one's gotten hurt or sick or... anything. I thought this whole medicine cat thing would be a bit harder. Is Clan life usually this peaceful?" Just then she realized that Vastflame probably wouldn't know; since the Clans had only recently re-formed, most of the cats had little more experience than she did.

i see an expression, so clear and so true vastflame pondered her question for a moment. his mother had told him about clans. lots of blood and gore and fighting. he looked up and stared her in the eyes. no. never. at least from what my mother told me. he blinked thoughtfully. ivoryfeather had a point. it was very peaceful. it had been a while since they had been any type of skirmish. vastflame unwillingly flexed his claws. it had been a very long time.
that changes the atmosphere when you walk to the room he regarded ivoryfeather silently. she was not a cat of many words, he used to think. this is probably the longest conversation they had ever had. vastflame smiled and looked at her. let's trying to keep it that way... maybe. i don't mind a skirmish now and then. it's kind of boring. he yawned to show his point and flicked her nose with his tail playfully. right? he grinned wolfishly, showing a set of sharp ivory teeth. so i try to be like you, try to feel it like you

Ivoryfeather purred and nodded to cover up for the tiny shiver that rippled through her pelt when the tom's tail tip touched her nose. "I think every cat has a desire for excitement every now and then," she agreed. Even medicine cats. The she-cat's her tail tip flicked silently from side to side. She returned his grin, but had enough sense not to pounce on her leader. Instead she hesitated.
Just because you enjoy play-fighting like a kit doesn't mean all grown cats do, she reminded herself. She had always thought of Vastflame as a calm, level-headed cat, hardly the type of cat who would humor her kit-like characteristics. She settled her tail on top of her paws.

i see an expression, so clear and so true with a sidelong glance at ivoryfeather, vastflame stretched out slowly towards her. claws unsheathed, he lazily extended a powerful forepaw towards her legs. batting at the air, he purred teasingly. you bet every cat does. even medicine cats, apparantly. vastflame grinned at her, feeling a surge of warmth towards the white-pelted she-cat. he had another friend.
tht changes the atmosphere when you walk to the room vastflame stopped moving for a moment and stared at her curiously. you probably didn't think i like to have fun. he growled at this, swishing his tail. your right. i love fun. laughing, he kept batting at the air around her feet, but finally, he inched closer and tried to connect with her forelegs, hoping to bring her down. so i try to be like you, try to feel it like you

Ivoryfeather grinned. "No, medicine cats are always serious." She frowned, pretending to be stern. "No exceptions." But she couldn't keep a straight face for long, and soon found herself grinning again. She kept a careful eye on the large orange paw he was waving at her, trying to predict when he would finally try to knock her over.
It was by no battle skills that she dodged it. Well, sort of dodged it, depending on how you defined "dodge." Just as the paw was about to come toward her, she decided to make a preemptive strike, and tried to pounce on it. She landed right on her target, but unfortunately she hadn't accounted for it being in motion, and her paws were swiped out from under her. The she-cat landed clumsily, but still tried to hook a claw in Vastflame's fur and pull him down with her.

[ooc- no muse right now.] Vastflame cast a glance over at Ivoryfeather, her pale coat glowing in the midafternoon sun. It was high up in the sky, throwing shafts of sunlight across the land. As she tripped on her own feet and tried to drag him down along with her, Vastflame growled playfully and lashed his tail in mock-anger as he rolled over. He turned onto his side and thrust his hind legs out, hoping to hit Ivoryfeather in the side.

Ivoryfeather scrambled to her paws, only to find herself being knocked over again. The she-cat flopped down onto her side, facing Vastflame. "Okay, okay, you win," she purred, her tail pounding on the ground a couple of times before calming to small twitches. The white she-cat found herself being mesmerized by her leader's sapphire eyes again. He's just like me, she realized. Playful at heart, but thrust into a position of responsibility, him because he was chosen by StarClan, her because of her talent with herbs. She wanted to ask him whether or not he was glad he had been chosen as StreamClan's leader, but at that moment he seemed so happy and she didn't want to spoil it.
Instead she asked the first question that came to mind. "Do you like fish?" As soon as the question had left her mouth she wished she could take it back. Of course he liked fish; he was the leader of StreamClan! Unable to think of a way to make herself sound less mouse-brained, she rolled over and licked her paw in an attempt to hide her embarrassment.
