Is it enough to love? Is it enough to breathe? Somebody rip my heart out And leave me here to bleed Is it enough to die? Somebody save my life I'd rather be anything but ordinary please
[/i] The faint rustle of paws brought the clearing to life. It was light and dignified, crunching over dead leaves like they were velvet carpet. A sole figure slipped out of the undergrowth, starlight dotting her pelt and hanging from the tips of her fur. Her plumy tail, sheathed in golden-brown fur, was raised jauntily like a flag in the wind. Two burning disks of emerald shone in the gloom, but now more subdued than they had been a moment ago. Sighing, the cat, faintly outlined in silver, lowered herself into a comfortable spot in the center of the clearing. She hadn't been to this part of the forest many times, yet. The young, brazen-spotted femme had stuck close to the river, winding through a barren moor to a lush land of plenty water. She had stayed there for a spell, deciding she quite liked it. Her den was situated nearby a large palm, in a little island in the midst of reeds. Eventually, she had decided to go wandering. Now, she sat in the middle of four towering, age-worn, blistered oaks, wondering what had conspired here. Blinking as if to adjust her eyes to the gloom, Jade studied the large rock that stood, dignified as ever, on the rightmost edge of the clearing. Claw marks scored along the lowest part, near a dip in the ground. thingying her head, the golden-brown tabby stretched out her forepaws and padded over to it. She bent her head, as if to study it very closely. Many intricate clawmarks overlapped each other under the midnight sky, some tiny and some large. Squinting, she turned away, studying the ground. A few clawmarks were still present here and there, stained with faint yet distinct scents. A fight had definitely happened there. Jade turned her back on the forest floor, shoulders sticking out of her back like little wings. The muscles along her haunches rippled, then her forelimbs extended. She sprang for the top of the rock, purchasing a little cleft in the topmost as she hauled herself up. Jade lay there for a moment, swiping her tongue over her lips. The slender-limbed tabby, got to her frost-colored paws, turning to face the swathe of moss, dirt, and gouges in the ground. Suddenly, Jade felt a twinge of apprehension in her stomach. Focusing her gossamer orbs upon the sky, she thought she was hallucinating. It looked as if there was four faces in the sky. The first was very narrow and beautiful, filled in with green orbs. Much like herself, actually. The second was a handsome, masculine face with etched scars and blue-azure eyes. Next was another ebon face with eyes as blue as the ocean. The last was the feminine face of a golden tabby-and-white with almost heart-wrenching blue-violet eyes. Jade blinked, and they were gone. Had they need tell her something? Were they giving her a sign. The golden tabby shivered with the thought of the four faces. For some reason, they made her very sad. Why, though? If she didn't know them, why did she care? Sighing, she wondered why she had come here in the first place. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

((This is part of the plot? -notices the thread name, shrugs, and starts writing-))
Four white paws plodded through the damp mulch that coated the forest floor. Her head and tail were low and her ears flattened in disappointment. Yet again she was alone. Several times she had come close, but in the end everyone pursued their own desires. First her parents, then the loner who had grudgingly adopted her, had abandoned her. But that was fine; she didn't need them anymore now that she could take care of herself. No, what she needed was a friend. She had met Rilan in the middle of a storm one night, but who knew where he was now? And Snowkit, who had seemed so sweet, was gone too.
Wren was beginning to think there was something wrong with her; something that repelled others. It was true that she generally avoided large groups of other cats, but not everyone had a huge circle of friends, did they? As she thought she walked, not knowing or caring where she was going.
Then something caught her eye, and she looked over and saw a huge tree. It took a moment for her to realize that this was the old Fourtrees, where the Clans had once gathered under the full moon. She had once been proud of being a pure-blooded OceanClan cat, but now she wasn't sure what she thought. She started to step into the clearing, then noticed a golden-brown tabby atop the Great Rock staring at the sky. Wren automatically looked up too, but saw nothing unusual, just a few glittering stars and the moon.
For a moment she considered turning around and leaving before she was noticed. Well, I've got nothing to lose, she thought with an inward sigh. Almost instantly her doubts about her ability to make friends disappeared; her spirits lifted greatly by the thought of having company again. She stepped out of the shadows into a beam of moonlight filtering through the trees' branches. Her grayish tawny pelt illuminated, showing the tabby markings on her face. If one looked closely they would notice that the rest of her was also tabby, though very faintly. Her chest, paws, and nose were a snowy white color. It was clear that she was a young cat partly by her small size, but mostly because of her robin blue eyes, which sparkled with a lively and naive innocence.

Silently, the burly, long-furred tom with the wide shoulders and big, round green eyes slipped through the bracken. Ahh, the Ancient Oaks... a place he'd never been to during his stay in MarshClan. He didn't know why his paws had lead him here, he didn't; however, damned if he cared; what else could he do? He had no family, no close friends... that is, except for Violetlight, but where the hell she was he wasn't sure. Spectrumfire approached the center of the four giant oaks, his eyes coolly disregarding the other two she-cats here. How strange, he thought wonderingly; two others had felt that bizarre urge to come here, too. He pricked his ears up, then sidled over to them; both were female, one an adult with a mottled tawny coat and the other was a smaller one with robin's-egg blue eyes. He greeted them with a swift incline of his head, and the casual, "Hello. I don't believe I've seen either of you before; may I ask your names?" He tilted his head, mottled, rainbowed pelt glinting. "I'm called Spectrumfire."
*** Moonlight filtering in through the barren branches of the enormous oaks flooded the clearing in between the four trees. Three cats were gathered, one broad-shouldered, dappled tabby tom and two pretty young she-cats. The ferns appeared merely breeze-kissed as Shadow swept through them smoothly, his brilliant, flashing blue eyes piercing the dark's oppressive grip. Starlight entwined with his velveteen black fur and picked out the silver hints. His paws whispered against the ground, but instead of approaching the other cats, he crouched against the trunk of one of the great trees. This place always had such a fanciful mystique about it, even after Squirrelpelt died here. I guess I'm not the only one who thinks so, he thought, blinking and gazing at the other three felines. He had no intention of greeting them; observing without uttering a single vowel was his nature. After all, he was, without a doubt, a Shadow of the night, not to be seen or heard but to see and hear himself. Swinging his cerulean stare around to fix it on the spaces of grass around the trees from which others would without a doubt enter, he decided to await the arrival of some cats he knew -- most likely a hot-blooded, hick-voiced relative, or, if he was lucky, Shroud.

Just as the others had been drawn to the Clan's ancient meeting place, so it was for a sleek silver tabby. Her unusual violet eyes stood out starkly against the darkness. Though she disliked them for giving away where she was and drawing attention to her where ever she went, she had a certain fondness of her. They were her defining feature, which had given her her name: Violetlight.
Her eyes flashed uncertainly as the scent of several cats coming from her destination reached her. Had they been drawn there too? Then her ears picked up a voice, one she recognized but hadn't heard for weeks. Spectrumfire. She broke into a run, heading towards its source. She could smell his scent now too, and quickly located him as she bounded into the clearing. "Spectrumfire!" she called, overjoyed at seeing him again. She moved swiftly across the clearing and made to nuzzle him, but stopped short as she noticed the other two she-cats. One looked young, much too young. But the other... She turned her violet gaze onto the older she-cat. "Who's your friend?" she asked, trying to keep her voice casual despite her willingness to rip them all to shreds if she heard the wrong answer. They hadn't been separated that long, had they? Surely not long enough for him to find someone else.
***
A third cat, this time a tom with emerald eyes, joined them in the clearing. "Hello Spectrumfire," Wren said cheerfully, "My name's Wren." She turned and looked expectantly at the first to have arrived, waiting to hear who she was.
Just then another she-cat, a silver tabby, dashed into the clearing calling Spectrumfire's name. It wasn't until she had turned to look at Wren that she noticed her eyes, which were a strange violet color. Wren hadn't known that was even possible. But her questions were quickly melted by the look on her face, which suggested she was going to rip anyone to shreds who got between her and the tom called Spectrumfire. Wren forced herself not to scoot away from him, but was ready to run if she had to.

Spectrumfire looked up when he heard another slight rustle, a broad grin breaking out over his muzzle and causing a bright light to gleam in his green eyes. "Violetlight!" He cried happily, overjoyed at seeing her familiar, beautiful dark purple eyes and her sleek silver coat. Most of all to hear her melodious, soft, graceful voice, although she looked frantic at finding the strong tom with two other she-cats. He kept his voice light as he chuckled a reply, "Oh, well, I've just learned this young she-cat's name; the other I've not heard from at all yet." He swung his eyes to meet those of the first gold-brown she-cat, quizzically staring for a few seconds before turning back to Violetlight.
"Glad to see you again," he murmured, blushing fiercely beneath his thick coat. His snowy muzzle reached to touch her pale coal-smeared one, as he wondered briefly where she'd been all this time. His eyes read, No, I've not found another who matches up to you, beloved.
***
Shadow smirked at the way these cats were romping around each other, re-meeting. Just like the Faithful Shadows, they were, only not as hell-bent and less of a family. Turning his eyes away again, he continued to keep his vigil of silence, still waiting for Shroud, wherever she was.

"What's all the noise about?" came a gentle-toned voice. Stirring unfolded a being like a sunlit lotus, spiking up his white, brown, and black body. He uncoiled like a snake or a fern opening up for light, blinking soft eyes. Leapingturtle slowly came to his broad paws, lifting himself up onto short, fluffy legs. He yawned widely, twitching his ear as soft winds played across it. He turned to all the cats, face uncurling into a cheery smile. "Oh! Hello!" he called out unhesitantly. His tail lifted, waving side to side like a banner. "My name is Leapingturtle," he said, after hearing everyone else introduce themselves. He wondered why they were here. He turned to his companion, Cedarshadow, and nosed the brown and black tom. "Oi, wake up. We've got company..." Cedarshadow grunted and flicked his tail, semi-ignoring his friend who was his senior by a eight or so moons. He yawned and opened his cloudy-gray eyes, blinking them for a moment to get used to the sunlight. He rolled onto his belly, stretching out his lithe but scarred limbs. Though Leapingturtle was older, it was evident that Cedarshadow was the fighter of the two. He slowly came to his feet, gliding over to where Leapingturtle stood. He sighed in slight annoyance at having been disturbed as he shook his tawny and sable pelt, flicking his tail and ears back and forth. The sunlight cast a fiery aura on his fur, giving him a powerful corona as he stepped slowly past Leapingturtle. He pursed his lips, surveying the crowd. "What's the party about?" he demanded, raising his brow towards Leapingturtle. His friend shrugged his shoulders.

Jade blinked as the forest was animated. Two cats in the corner unfurled, while an apprentice-aged femme and two tomcats meandered in. Then, a plumy-tailed tabby had came in. She fixated her attention on the little tabby of a muted color palette. Mmmm. Jade. The spotted tabby murmured, glancing up at the sky. She cleared her throat in an attempt to quiet everyone down. Well... Jade trailed off, searching for an answer to the stocky tom. She threw him her most confident smile, and finished her sentence. We're here to celebrate, because this cat, she giggled girlishly, pointing to herself with her fluffy tail, is officially going insane. Jumping down from the rock, she slipped over to the tri-colored tabby tom. Heya, Spectrumfire. Weird name you have there. You one of those old Clancats or whatever? Rolling her eyes, she continued. My dad was one of them. He was in OceanyTribe or whatever. She opened her eyes, revealing two exaggeratedly bright emerald eyes. Isn't it weird that we're all here? Jade inquired the gray femme, tilting her face up to the moon, letting it bathe her face in silvery light.
* ** *** ** * There he was. His smooth, plush charcoal-mottled pelt and soulful blue eyes. His handsome voice and muscular frame. Softly, she crept up behind him, swollen belly brushing along the ground. Moonlight flashed over her, revealing a silken invory coat adorned by ebon patches. Leaf-green eyes shone from a gorgeoues, sweet face as she raised one forepaw. Sliding the last few inches towards her mate, she brought her silvery-white forepaw down on Shadow, conking him squarely between his ears. Hiya, Shadow! She giggled, plopping down next to him and wrapping his fluffy ebon tail with her thin, mottled one. Miss me much? Shroud asked, resting her dainty chin on his broad shoulder. These darn kits tugging around on my stomach are deadweight. She sighed with faux unhappiness, her green eyes shining. I can't wait 'till they're finally born! Which would be soon, it looked like. Shroud's belly was swollen almost grossly.
* ** *** ** * A stout, smoke-colored feline peered out from one side of, his faded blue eyes expressing confusion. He surveyed the area thoroughly before stepping out all of the way. He trotted down the crest of the hill, right up to a rather young, pretty tabby-and-white female. The smoky gray tom dipped his head as a greeting, looking up at the full moon and blinking. He turned his triangular face back to the she-cat, cocking his head. What's going on? The young tom asked, twitching his tail in a friendly manner. Crowflight had told his siblings to meet him here at moonhigh earlier that day, when they split up for a hunting trip. They had done that since they left their foster mother. It was definitely moonhigh, and no sign of the fluffy ginger-and-white she-cat or streamlined calico tom yet. So he turned his sharp blue-silver gaze back to the muted brown-gray tabby she-cat and interrogated her some more. My name's Crowflight, what's yours?

Violetlight's attitude towards the other cats warmed considerably when her mate assured her that he hadn't found another she-cat. She returned his affection, staring into his emerald green eyes and reading their message. A mushy response began to form in her mind, but she felt this wasn't the time and place, not with so many cats around. She pulled her muzzle away from his gently. "It's good to see you too," she said instead.
She started to say something else, then paused and looked at Jade, waiting for an explanation. After all, she had been the first one to get there, so she ought to know what was going on, right? However, what the she-cat said after her name was far from what Violetlight had been expecting. They had all been drawn here because of some insane cat? Great. Just great. But at least she had found Spectrumfire.
Violetlight frowned as Jade started to talk to Spectrumfire. Couldn't she tell that she wanted to talk to him? "OceanClan," she grumbled under her breath, annoyed. She had always liked Spectrumfire's name, but Jade's comment about it wasn't what had irked her. She knew she shouldn't be getting this annoyed over nothing, but knowing that didn't help.
****************
((Crowflight's talking to Wren, right?))
Wren turned towards the most recent newcomer, a gray tom with blue-gray eyes. "I'm Wren," she said. "And I have no clue what's going on," she nodded towards the brown tabby she-cat. "That's Jade. She was the first one to get here, and she seems just as lost as the rest of us." She shrugged. The first question that popped into her mind was "So, what're you doing here?" but she realized how stupid it would sound if she said it like that. "I take it you don't know why we're all here either. But I have nothing better to do."

Spectrumfire, embarrassed, disregarded Jade lightly and nodded. "Well..." he trailed off, looking to Violetlight, who didn't seem thrilled by the tabby's silly little remark about OceanClan. He shrugged helplessly, not really knowing what else to say. He blinked as the moon glinted off new cats' pelts, and sighed; was every cat in the forest coming?
***
Shadow stepped from his place in the dark, smiling warmly. "Shroud!" He cried, rushing to her beautiful face and setting his own against it. "I haven't seen you in forever, it seems, and I have to say you look exquisite." Blue met green as he exchanged secret love-thoughts, all of them fanciful and yet sincere. It had been a long time since Shadow and Shroud had met, but he was just as pleased to see his children-to-be, Shroud's very heavy luggage. He winked at her and twined his tail with hers, forgetting the rest of the cats. Not that he'd ever remembered them.
***
Stealthiness was not Kingfisher's way.
Barreling into the camp with a loud, abrasive swing, he trampled after Crowflight, calling, "Hey, Crowflight, what's gotten into you? I can't foll--" He trailed off, eyes widening in surprise after seeing the other cats. Wow! So many of them -- but why? Not being very social, Kingfisher's eyes slid to the corner of his sockets, glaring angrily at Crowflight. Wasn't an ambush, but still! He stomped over to where his brother was conversing with a confused-looking she-cat, and demanded, "Hey, what the heck is goin' on, Crow? I thought this place was deserted since the wars ended." He met eyes with the blue-eyed femme, then disregarded her coolly. She wasn't his concern.

Cedarshadow rolled his eyes and twitched his tail towards Leapingturtle. "Let's go," he said, rolling his shoulders back. The brown and black tom was not amused at all by the situation. "These flaming imbeciles weren't worth my nap." The tom turned and pushed past the fern patch. Leapingturtle frowned and ran after him. "Oh, c'mon, Cedarshadow! They could be friends!" the brown tom said. "I don't buy it," the crescent moon-patterned veteran grumbled, hair bristling as he stormed away. Leapingturtle sighed in exasperation. "But they seem nice..." Cedarshadow frowned. "No, I'm not joining up with some band again," the tom told his friend. Leapingturtle's eyes crinkled at the edges as he frowned sadly. "Okay...," he said, with a croaky voice of resignation. Cedarshadow snorted disdainfully and trotted off, Leapingturtle at his heels.

i'd.rather.be.anything.but.ordinary.please Jade nodded vigorously as her eyes flew around the spacious clearing with wonder, taking in the cats. This is almost like a- a.... She trailed off, her still-young mind forgetting the information her father, Sage had told her about. The mottled gold femme glanced over at the light gray she-cat, silently asking for help. Before pleadingly looking into her unusually violet eyes, she turned her bright gaze to her mismatched forepaws. Umm... Jade thought for a moment, then shrugged her shoulders. I'm sure you guys had been to them... were they Gatheralls? Her voice was sincerely innocent, much unlike her usually composure. The tabby furrowed her brows, looking rather cross. No, that won't do... great stars, what was it? She spat at the ground, thinking furiously. Was it... a Gathering? Jade's eyes ignited joyously, her tail waving excitedly. Yea, that was it! This is kinda like a Gathering? The young female asked curiously, glancing from the multicolored tom to the slim gray femme. * ** *** ** * that's.what.you.get.when.you.let.your.heart.win Shroud purred, flicking her tail across his gray nose. And if I must, I say you look absolutely beautiful, dearie. The bicolor giggled as she called her mate feminine, and lifted up her muzzle to wash his ears gently. So, for names... Shroud sighed testily, flicking her tail crisply out of the dying grass. Names, names.... She surveyed the clearing alertly as a young calico came barelling in and two older tomcats unfurled from thier sleeping places. Her green eyes closed for a heartbeat before snapping open. Y'now, there was this one word that I heard once, that a Twoleg said... She trailed off... shifting her haunches a little. He said... it was.... dumia? Shroud shook her head, as if trying to dislodge a tick. Dumia. I asked a kittypet about it later. She said it meant silence, or something. Shroud shrugged, resting her head on Shadow's shoulder. * ** *** ** * tired.of.staring.at.the.passengers.waving.goodbye Crowflight twitched his tail in greeting to his brother, Kingfisher. The brash calico had just arrived. It was usually in that order. Crowflight, Kingfisher, Kitefeather. The mischievious female always seemed to arrive last everywhere. She was always getting in trouble. The solid gray tom sighed. I don't know, you tell me. Just a coincidence, I guess? Because no one planned it. Crowflight motioned to the pretty golden-brown tabby talking earnestly to two cats of her age. She was here first, so... He shrugged. Eh. Swinging his eyes around the clearing, he noticed two cats rejoicing happily. One was heavily pregnant. Aw.. how sweet. Crowflight thought to himself, only partly sarcastic. Somehow, many cats were gathering here. Okay, that sounded familiar. Gathering? Where had he heard that? Shrugging it off, the stout young tom turned back to his brotehr and new friend. You have any clue, Wren? He asked the tabby-and-white, catching her eyes for the first time. Then, he turned to Kingfisher. Hey, King? This is Wren. Wren, meet Kingfisher, my brother. Crowflight introduced the two, glancing around again, looking for Kitefeather. Where in stars was she?

[[Woot. I feel rusty.]] A black shadow slunk into the clearing. Fur that was pitch black, like the night sky during a thunderstorm. And eyes, violet eyes, that glowed from the dark pelt like twin fires. But they held no emotion, no feelings. That was how Eclipse was: emotionless, like the moon itself. There was a reason for it, but it was one so heavily shrouded in the past that even she did not like to think of it. Again, no reason for that. So many individuals, Eclipse thought to herself. So easily scattered, I believe, like ants at meal. But it wouldn't do to inflict harm on them yet, would it? No, she decided, it was best that she wait for a clear confrontation. A word caught her obsidian auds. Clan. Her mother and father had been in a Clan once, hadn't they? Silently stepping behind the large tri-colored tom and his she-cat (curious, that this one should look so similar to herself), Eclipse allowed a word to escape her lips. "Pardon," said a cold, emotionless voice. "You spoke of OceanClan a moment ago. I was wondering: did either of you know a fellow by name of Venomfang? Or Freedspirit, perhaps?" There was no curiousity to the young femme's voice; Eclipse had long since done away with feelings. They were so easily wounded, feelings; best keep them locked far away inside her for now. [[Will make bio later. She's too awesome to leave out of this! ^-^]]

"I guess it's like a Gathering," Violetlight said thoughtfully, now forgetting her annoyance with Jade. "I don't really know... I only went to one Gathering, the night I was apprenticed. And that was the one when the Faithful Shadows attacked." And I didn't take part in any fighting, she thought with a twinge of guilt. But now the Clans were destroyed, so it didn't matter anyways. "But why? Why are we all here?" She stared at Jade with her piercing violet gaze, as though expecting the young she-cat, who was nearly clueless to Clan ways, to provide an answer.
Violetlight turned away from Jade to search for the source of the cold voice, and was surprised to find that they came from a young cat. A pair of violet eyes stared back at her own. She looks... just like Venomfang, Violetlight thought, her eyes widening. And she knows of him. The truth was that Violetlight hadn't seen her uncle for several moons; not since the war against the Faithful Shadows, when she had only glimpsed him. "Yes, I know Venomfang," she answered, unable to keep her voice from being cold. "Why do you want to know?"
***
Wren shook her head. "No clue." She then looked at the recently introduced Kingfisher and nodded friendlily to him. "Hello," she greeted him, then looked back at Crowflight. "Are you expecting someone else?" she asked, seeing that he was looking around.

"He was the reason my mother killed herself." Eclipse replied icily. "Also, as he was my father, I assume that he'd want to see his daughter. But assumptions are as useless as dreams, aren't they?" The jet-black cat returned the older femme's look, though without the emotion. "I believe him to be dead. But you might know otherwise. Do you?" The yearling resisted the urge to leave. Why am I speaking so easily, so freely, to one I hardly know? If I am truly emotionless, then I shouldn't say anything; feelings come out when you speak. And the crowd was making her uncomfortable. Very, very uncomfortable. And when Eclipse was uncomfortable, bad things happened.

ooc; Sorry for the sucky post. No muse.
Spectrumfire's eyes narrowed thoughtfully, as he passed a conspiratorial glance towards Violetlight, though he said nothing. Venomfang. The uncle who reminded her of Abyssfang, now dead in his grave, so he'd heard. His ears flicked, as he awaited an explanation. He murmured, "Oh, then you're Violetlight's cousin..." He couldn't keep the surprise out of his voice. What a pleasant relative..

King shrugged at Wren, seeming to smile. "'Ello." He turned back to Crow, awaiting the time his rambunctious sister would arrive. Hopefully she hadn't gotten lost on the way.
