Violetlight looked at her cousin, surprised at her seemingly random coldness. Though it had been said softly, Violetlight caught all of what she said. "If that's what you want," she said gently, her voice kind but hopefully not so much that Eclipse would be offended. "You don't have to like me if you don't want to, but just know that if you ever need anything I'll always be willing to help. Within reason, of course." She stopped and waited for the cold reply she was almost sure would follow her offer to help.

Eclipse stared straight at Violetlight with her amethyst orbs. There was no feeling in them, other than a very slight haze of nger, which seemed to always be there when she was with others. One long, owlish blink, and then words from the feeling-deprived feline. "I don't like anyone, Cousin."

Vioetlight stared at Eclipse, her eyes wide. She was so young, and yet she appeared to have seen so much. But why? What had Venomfang and whoever his mate was done to create this feelingless creature? "That's sad," she said, thinking about Crystalheart. "You shouldn't throw your life away. A life alone isn't a life at all."

"It is to me, Cousin." Eclipse said softly, stepping closer to Violetlight. "You seem curious, Cousin Violetlight, as to why I am like this. Would you care to know why?" The black cat said in the same tone, the expression in her eyes changing to a darker, deeper fury than before. "My mother died because of her emotions. My father left her to take care of me and my siblings alone, without any reason or explanation. So I learned, dear Cousin. I learned to lock those feelings away, deep inside, so that the same fate would not befall me. I have seen many things, Cousin, most of them deaths. And I would not wish any of those myriad fates on anyone, not the least of which myself."

Violetlight shook her head. "That's just typical Venomfang," she sighed. "Who was your mother? She sounds like my sister, who decided that she was done with loving after our mother was murdered. And my father, I never even knew him." The tawny-silver she-cat shook her head slowly. "I probably would've ended up like her if I hadn't met Spectrumfire. But before then I was all alone. My whole family was either evil, dead, or too depressed to care. Technically I was alive, but I didn't start to live until I had begun to build my own family." She hoped that Eclipse would see through her story to the moral. Or maybe some things had to be discovered on their own.

"And what is it that I am supposed take away from that tale?" Eclipse said, voice suddenly flat and cold again. "That everything will be perfect once I meet the 'tom of my dreams'? Forget it, Cousin." Eclipse flicked her ears back in sudden irritation. "I saw how I was concieved. There wasn't any love. I saw many litters born, and in them I saw not the slightest trace of love. Just misery ahead for everyone involved."

"If you're waiting for the tom of your dreams, you'll be waiting forever," Violetlight said flatly. "No perfect tom exists." But some can come pretty close, she thought, thinking of Spectrumfire. However, she momentarily pushed her love life away. "But that's not my point; without friends life is pointless. It is sad but true that some mates do not actually love each other, but many do." A sudden thought hit Violetlight. Could it be that...? It would certainly explain why she was the way she was. Surely not even Venomfang was that twisted? "Your mother... She wasn't Crystalheart, was she?" Violetlight seriously hoped that Eclipse didn't know who Crystalheart was. She hadn't mentioned her name, only talked about her sister, and it sounded like whoever her mother was hadn't told her much about her family.

[/color][/right] Hauntedstar ignored Mintleaf. She had every right to be hostile to him, but he found it tiresome and pointless to argue with her. So he followed after Morninglight, who had found Spectrumpaw, and sat by her, but said nothing. Occassionally he would glance back at the she-cat whom he had once loved, but other than that, he was silent. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

The ferns parted once more for a new arrival. Sleek as a swan gliding across the water, a tall, dignified-looking she-cat gracefully made her way through the crowd, not lost but not knowing what she was doing, either. "Seems every cat in the forest is here; I wonder if they all had the same inner driving here." One thing's for sure; no kin of mine are here. If they were, they most likely had naught to do with her; Shallowheart's flexible descendents were like that. Most of them were dumb enough to breed with their cousins and further continue the dwindling lineage of the old assassin, whom was little more than dust in his grave by now.
Daughter of Shimmerplume and Crowshade, granddaughter of Doomgust and Flowerpetal, and great-great granddaughter of Shallowheart himself, Goldenfox slid through the crowd with an emotionless expression on her face. Life goes on, apparently. I'm sure many of these cats have just had a tragedy and are meeting up with their spouses again. It surely seems that way, she thought, eyeing Shadow and Shroud, Hauntedstar and Mintleaf, Spectrumfire and Violetlight. The world is bowing for the homeless forest cats on this beautiful night.
Goldenfox had spotted her cousin, her mother's nephew, Shadow, son of the promiscuous dead Squirrelpelt, whom had apparently met with his pregnant wife and was celebrating with her. She stared with an intrigued, burning glare at him, very handsome and exceedingly happy with that magnificent she-cat he was with. She envied him, but found herself fascinated at once. Same age as me, yet he's starting a family and I haven't so much as caught a tom's eye. I suppose the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Here she thought of Squirrelpelt, whom her mother had told her stories about, none of them good, and shook her head.
"Why am I even here?" She growled to herself, losing her frozen poise that she kept stocked 'neath her thick-skinned heart. Glancing around, she seemed to freeze, finding the scents she thought she'd never want to taste again; the ones who'd ended her mother's brief stay on the grounds -- Kingfisher and Crowflight, her parents' sons and her brothers. A dark look fleeted across her eyes as she stared coldly at both little male kittens, conversing with another female their age. Maybe that's why I came; to meet eyes with the little tramps who murdered my mother.
Goldenfox seethed quietly in the dark, alone, her eyes shooting sparks of hatred towards the two brothers; hopefully they'd notice her and cringe from her contemptuous eyes.. the image of hatred themselves.

Spectrumfire blinked, surprised at Violetlight's outburst. "Crystalheart? Wasn't that..." He trailed off, glancing first at Eclipse, then at his loved one. What a sick, twisted family, if that's true, he simply thought, deciding not to delve into that 'little mystery' any longer. Shrugging off the contempt he felt for Eclipse, he looked elsewhere, meeting Hauntedstar's eyes briefly, but showing neither friendliness nor hostility; same with Morninglight. Sympathy and pity could be felt for both, but their tragedies were kept locked in their hearts and minds and not in the rainbowed warrior's.

Mintleaf stood up. Obviously it was just a coincidence that there were so many cats here; nothing special was going to happen, they were just reuniting with their families. Mintleaf's mate was dead, and as far as she was concerned she didn't have any kits. She had intended to tell Hauntedstar about Abyssfang's death, but after speaking to him she had changed her mind. Why should she tell him anything? He could find out on his own.
Most of the gray she-cat's anger was towards Morninglight, who she gave an angry glare as she trotted out of the clearing.

"My other cousin." Eclipse said frostily, turning now to view the tom who sat so close to Violetlight. She allowed herself a miniscule smile before continuing. "My mother was Mooncrest. Before that, she was Moonpaw. She fled from OceanClan to ValleyClan to escape her father, my grandfather, Freedspirit." The smile faded rapidly now as the ebony cat's purple eyes flared up with renewed anger. "You see, Cousin and Friend of my Cousin, my whole family tree is shrouded in fear and written in blood. I would break the cycle by never having kits. Toms--" Here she narrowed her amethyst eyes in Spectrumfire's direction. "have no place in my existence, other than as distant allies and enemies." ---------------------- A ginger frame strode stealthily into view. She was late, alright, but that didn't mean anything, did it? Of course not. In the distance, the green eyes of the newcomer spotted two familiar figures. With a sly grin, she crept up behind them, then pounced on them playfully. "Hah! Sleepin' 'gain, Shadow?" Demon laughed good-naturedly to her cousin. "An' how 'bout ya, Shroud? Lookin' like a mammy already, y'are!" The exuberance quickly faded as she sat up straight. Now came some awkwardness for the slang-tossing femme fatale. When she'd last left Shadow and Shroud (her best friend growing up), there'd been anger between her and the duo. Demon was a loner by nature, and didn't want her friends following her everywhere; to make matters worse, Shadow and Shroud had been in love, and Demon refused to see such a bond severed by the perils of 'her' life. Long story short, they'd split, and she hadn't seen them since. Now wasn't a time for the past, though, Demon decided. It was a time to regroup, reorganize, and rekindle what they'd lost so long ago.

Violetlight let out a breath of air, only then realizing that she had been holding it. Good. Venomfang and Crystalheart weren't mates. She hadn't actually met Freedspirit, but she had heard of him. How he had become a medicine cat, she had no clue. Could OceanClan have really been that desperate? Then again, they had almost been taken over by an evil loner; the only reason they weren't was because the Clans had broken up. That was what she had heard, anyways.
She shook her head slowly, but perked up at the mention of kits, remembering her own news. But she wasn't sure yet, and she didn't want to tell Spectrumfire she was going to have kits if it turned out she wasn't. Without a Medicine Cat, she couldn't know ahead of time. For now she pulled her attention back to the conversation. She was fine with the idea of certain cats never wanting to have kits, but shutting out the world like Eclipse was doing... It just wasn't right. But she wouldn't listen to reason. That was a key part of being insane.
"Family trees don't matter," Violetlight began to explain, but knew even before the words were out of her mouth that it was hopeless. Their views on everything were too different. But she couldn't help but feel like it was her duty to at least try. "I've seen perfectly decent cats come from long lines of bloodthirsty monsters. I've also seen the noblest of warriors' kits turn out evil."

The large ebony tom blundered through the undergrowth. A mingled scent of cats hit him rather hard. The scents he recognized were old and stale and belonged to long forgotten cats. The new one's were fresh, and from his view point in the undergrowth, he could see several cats gathered and they were speaking. He squeezed his sizeable body out of the thick bramble, dragging some of it with him.
His odd-eyes glanced around the ancient oaks, yes, he remebered it well. The cats had changed but the place hadn't, it was still familair. He didn't say anything, he'd wait untill he was spoken to. He sat down on his haunches quietly, well quieter than he how he'd shown up...

The force of a heavy and skilled attacker forced Shadow to the ground, and where a regular cats hackes would have risen, the dark-pelted warrior sighed and smiled to himself. Demon, of course. He rolled over to dislodge her from his back, then glared at her with sparkling eyes, before the anger softened and relief slashed his visage. Glancing at Shroud, he sat, stunned by the orange she-cat's appearance. Finally, he welcomed her with, "Demon, you idiot... why... no one would believe you were an adult if you didn't speak like one..." His voice trailed off, as his emotions overwhelmed him.
In a torrent of feelings, Shadow was relieved to see Demon was living; angry to remember the fear and hurt she'd caused Shroud, and, yes, even him; wondering where she'd been and why she'd returned if she wanted to be independent; and... finally... Shadow was just happy she was here, in front of him, in the fur. His head dipped, his eyes saddening as he saw how uneasy the orange tabby was, and he did something so unShadowish is was shocking.
He tackled Demon, pinned her to the ground, and declared in a jolly voice, "Revenge!" * [Redblood isn't dead; he'll be here soon.]
